A Tribute to The Hunger Games Trilogy - The Books

Our 100 days of Mockingjay celebration burns on! This week we're honoring the place where it all began: Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games book trilogy.

Suzanne Collins created The Hunger Games from an idea born of late night channel surfing between real war coverage and reality television. Suzanne, the daughter of a career military man and Vietnam Veteran, has said that she wanted to write an age-appropriate war story for every age group. The Hunger Games is her war story for young adults. The trilogy's themes of poverty, socio-economic disparity, government corruption, propaganda, revolution, redemption, and the consequences of war mirror events in our current society.

The Hunger Games means different things to different people. For some, Katniss Everdeen is a strong and inspiring female role model, and for some she inspires as a survivor of poverty and PTSD. She's complicated, imperfect, damaged and an incredibly compelling lead character.

Some people adore the love stories. Suzanne wrote interesting, complex relationships without a typical fairytale ending in the lot: Katniss and Peeta, Katniss and Gale, Finnick and Annie, even Mr. and Mrs. Everdeen.

As we've seen throughout this 100 Days of MJ project, The Hunger Games means much more to people than a series of novels or a movie franchise. Seven of the ten most highlighted Kindle passages ever are from The Hunger Games trilogy, and The Hunger Games is the third most highlighted book OF ALL TIME, eclipsed only by The Bible and Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson.

How You Can Participate This Week:

Suzanne's words are compelling and powerful, meaningful and resonant. We want to honor those words this week by asking you to share your favorite Hunger Games book quote or passage in a visual way. Take a quote that has made an impact on you and make an edit, write it out, take a photo – the possibilities are endless. Let your imagination run wild. Just feature the words of THG in a visual way and use the hashtag #THGTrilogy to share it on social media.

We are partnering with our friends at Everlarked & Always (who made the beautiful edit above) this week. They'll also be sharing some of your tagged work on their Tumblr blog Everlarked & Always, so be sure to follow.

GIVEAWAY:

We can't have a new theme without a new giveaway. This week (Wed, Sept 9 - Tues, Sept 14th) ONE winner will receive:

A boxed set of The Hunger Games trilogy foil editions

A set of 5 Mockingjay pins: The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, Mockingjay Part 1, the new Mockingjay Part 2 pin that was given away at Comic-Con and a black Mockingjay pin (5 pins in total).

Enter the giveaway through the widget below. Sharing a photo on social media is not required to enter, nor does it count as an entry BUT it sure is fun, and we can't wait to see what you guys come up with!

I love the 100 days of Mockingjay idea and especial this weeks. Personally I love Catching Fire out of all the books because there's still hope unlike Mockingjay or the first book. My favourite quote from The Hunger Games is, 'It takes ten times as long to put yourself back together as it does to fall apart.' Out of all the quotes in the series none mean as much to me as that one does. Falling apart really is easy (something I unfortunately learnt first hand) and having that quote reminds me not to give in and that getting through the problem is was easier than giving up in the long run. The entire book to me feels like it has that message of hope and not giving up probably why it's my favourite book of all time.

My favourite book was Catching Fire! Mockingjay grew up on me over time, though :)

Catching Fire is my favorite because I love the arena, and Katniss allying with other tributes.

I think Catching Fire was the best book in the series, and most definitely my favorite. Katniss began to truly realize the game behind the Games. Also, the mental pictures brought forth through the detailed writing were stunning, and gave me goosebumps!

My favorite book is Catching Fire because it builds on the mythos of Panem, the Capitol, and the Hunger Games.

I love them all, but my favorite is THG. Suzanne just created a great world, and it's so descriptive.

Although all three books are incredible, I have to say that Catching Fire is my favourite!!

My favourite book from the series is Catching Fire. It's like the first book but it goes a bit deeper and you already know the characters. So to me it was a lot of fun to read CF.

Catching Fire has always been my favorite. You get to meet new characters, learn more about the districts and the theme is extremely developed and unique. I really loved the 'clock-theme' that was applied to the arena. And Finnick... Do I need to say more? :D

Gotta say Catching Fire is my favorite, though all the books are amazing.

Definitely Mockingjay!

Although all 3 books are amazing and essential to the story, Catching Fire's probably my favorite book. It's the book where we are first introduced to the entire world of Panem, including the other districts, the other victors, and the revolution itself.

My favourite book is Catching Fire because you get to see how Katniss' and Peeta's relationship changed but also how their lives changed after winning the Games, furthermore you get to meet all those new victors characters and learn more about the games they won and how they did it.Finally Catching Fire is my favorite because the impact of Katniss' actions in the arena starts to show as the rebellion begins. Then again I really like Mockingjay too

One of my favourite quotes from the trilogy is "At some point you have to stop running and face the things that want you dead, the hard part is finding the courage to do it" -Katniss Everdeen. I have many more but I feel like I should limit my favourite quote to one, so here it is!:)

My favourite book in the THG Trilogy is Catching Fire. I found the arena more action-packed, plus I loved reading how Haymitch won his own games. Katniss & Peeta also made me feel so much emotions whilst reading this book.

Mockingjay is my favourite because it's completely devastating. After everything we've been through together, all the emotional highs and lows, it comes to an end and we now need to pick up the pieces and get on with our lives, and they will never be the same again

"The Hunger Games" is my favorite.
It's where it all began. It's where I first fell in love.

September 9, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterLara

My favorite Hunger Games quote is "If we burn you burn with us" and "May the odds be ever in your favor "

My favorite book of the trilogy would have to be Catching Fire because it's where we can see that there's more than just games, it's about survival and Revolution. I couldn't choose between the three books because I love them all, they each have something that leads to the other and they're amazing.

My favorite book is Catching Fire <3

My favourite book from the trilogy is definitely catching fire because you literally just see so much more of the districts and The Capitol's unjustice and I just can't it's just amazing like it's the 1 book from the series I have in golden edition I just love it so much😍
