Do we celebrate the birthdays of fictional characters here at PanemPropaganda? You better believe it! Happy Birthday to Katniss Everdeen, our Girl on Fire!
How do we know that May 8th is Katniss' birthday, you ask? Suzanne Collins told us:
I kept telling myself if I could only hold out until May, just May 8th, I would turn twelve and be able to sign up for the tesserae and get that precious grain and oil to feed us.
- The Hunger Games, Chapter 2
On May 8th, I went to the Juctice Building, signed up for my tesserae, and pulled home my first batch of grain and oil in Prim's toy wagon.
- The Hunger Games, Chapter 4
So go eat some lamb stew, pick a dandelion in the Spring, be a rebel and a hero, save your sister and celebrate Katniss Everdeen today!
Sam Claflin is going to have a very busy year! He's signed on to reprise his role as William in The Huntsman, the sequel (or pre-quel? - it's hard to tell) to Snow White and The Huntsman. Kristen Stewart isn't coming along for the ride this time, but Chris Hemsworth and CharlizeTheron are back as well as newcomers Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain. The Hunstman lands April 22, 2016.
Sam has also been cast as British soccer legend Robin Friday in a biopic scheduled for a fall shoot in the U.K. The film will be based on the biography “The Greatest Footballer You Never Saw: The Robin Friday Story,” co-written by Paul McGuigan and Paolo Hewitt. With Sam's background in - and love for - British football, this should be perfect casting.
Friday played for the Reading and Cardiff teams for four years in the 1970s while leading a hedonistic lifestyle. He died at the age of 38 in 1990; in 2004 he was voted an “all time cult hero” in a BBC poll.
Sam is currently shooting Me Before You with Emilia Clarke, then will appear in Their Finest Hour and a Half, a romantic comedy set in the early 1940s co-starring Gemma Arterton.

Lorde and Jen at one of the Met Gala after partiesJennifer Lawrence co-hosted the Met Gala in New York last night, and many of her Hunger Games family were there glamming it up as well. Julianne Moore, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz and Lorde (she's in the family now after curating the Mockingjay Part 1 soundtrack) all stepped out for ‘China: Through The Looking Glass’ Costume Institute Benefit Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
At a press day for Pitch Perfect 2, Elizabeth Banks’ directorial debut, the actress told MTV that she would be open to revisiting her character in The Hunger Games series.
“I love Effie, I miss her dearly,” Banks said. “If people want more, I’m definitely up for it,” she said. “I just love Effie, so sure.”
Hallmark is making a Mockingjay Part 2 keepsake ornament this year! The Catching Fire one they did was a favorite of ours, so we're really looking forward to this little guy joining it on our tree this year. We wonder why they didn't do a Mockingjay Part 1...
The Mockingjay Part 2 ornament will be available on October 3rd at Hallmark.
Well, THAT was unexpected. After an incredibly cool futuristic jazz number and a winning salsa dance-off, plus the night's high score of 39 (after the dance-off extra 2 points), Team Markingjay (Willow Shields and Mark Ballas) was eliminated in week 7 of Dancing With the Stars. I think we were all crying right along with Willow.
Check out their numbers below:
I mean, she KILLED it every time!
If social media is any indication, the rest of the world was as upset about it as we were. #SaveWillow and #BringBackTeamMarkingjay were all over twitter, instagram and facebook last night.
It's so hard to believe that they didn't get enough votes. We were voting our heads off! Maybe people thought they were so good that they didn't need the votes? Who knows, it's heartbreaking.
Willow and Mark should be proud of what they accomplished and know that they certainly win in the hearts of the tributes!
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 director Francis Lawrence sat down with Steven Weintraub from Collider.com at CinemaCon last night, and revealed some of the most interesting Mockingjay Part 2 information we've heard YET! Thanks Collider for asking such great questions (and for listening to the tributes on twitter!).
Take a look:
Among the juicy nuggets of information on MJ2:
They are in post, the cut of the film is basically done. First cut was 2 hrs 50 min, now its 2 hrs 7 min without credits and epilogue.
There are very few deleted scenes, they used almost everything they shot.
They'll shoot the Epilogue in late May, it will be a few minutes long. (they heard your twitter questions)
Francis hears your demands for a trailer on twitter but wants you all to "practice patience" about it. "The last movie just came out in November, and left theatres in March or April or something. It’s crazy… they’ll get it." It is "nice to want."
Movie will be complete ("done, done") in September
Francis says they're going to Comic Con with some cast, but cast TBD.
Tim Palen has some cool stuff planned for marketing teaser-wise.
Francis Lawrence will be at The Hunger Games Exhibition grand opening in New York on July 1st.
Time to get excited, tributes!! Excited and patient!?!?!?
Francis also talked about Mockingjay Part 2 with Josh Horowitz from MTV News at Cinema Con:
Francis had this to say about working with Jennifer Lawrence:
Francis also spoke about Jennifer Lawrence in the press room at the Awards. He was asked about how she's changed and said:
“I don’t think she’s really changed. I’ve been working on these films for 3 ½ years now and she’s really wonderful. She’s an extremely talented person and very warm and fun to be around. Very down to earth, very silly. She’s exactly the same now, so, she’s fantastic.”
