New 'Mockingjay Part 1' Deleted Scene - "I'm Not Asking"

A new deleted scene from Mockingjay Part 1 was revealed today. The scene features Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) and President Snow (Donald Sutherland) in a tense standoff in The Capitol. Check out "I'm Not Asking."

Francis Lawrence explains why the pivotal scene was deleted from the theatrical release of the film to Huffington Post:

"Because the books are so Katniss-centric, and every scene you see and hear and experience is through Katniss' eyes, we have an opportunity to expand outward from her a bit in the movies. But there's a point at which scenes feel like they don't work. 

If you look at 'Catching Fire,' there are definitely scenes where Katniss is not present, where we see Snow making plans about Katniss and talking to Plutarch. There are scenes like that in this movie as well, and we thought we would be able to cut away to Snow and see him interact with Peeta. But for some reason, because it wasn't as directly linked to Katniss, it didn't feel like it worked. It just sort of fell on the other side of that balance for us. Where it felt like we were sort of experiencing some information that Katniss never would have. It felt like we were cheating a little too much.

The big dramatic question of 'Mockingjay - Part 1' is will we get Peeta back? Is Peeta okay? To see Peeta alive, looking pretty well and being brought into a nice place for an interview feels like it was letting a little air out of the bag. It gave away too much. So sort of for the combination of those reasons, we let it go."

 

Mockingjay Part 1 will be available digitally on Feb. 17 (TOMORROW), before being released on Blu-ray, DVD, and VOD on March 6. More info and where to buy HERE.

The 'Mockingjay Part 1' New York Press Conference

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 Press Tour made its stop in New York City! Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Julianne Moore, Sam Claflin, Donald Sutherland, Natalie Dormer, Willow Shields, Francis Lawrence, Jeffrey Wright, Mahershala Ali and producer Nina Jacobson all join this interview, moderated by Fandango's Dave Karger,  courtesy of Beyond The Trailer. 

The press conference was held after the Ask Mockingjay fan event, which will be aired on Facebook on Monday.

 

Donald Sutherland on Good Morning America

Donald Sutherland gave a fabulous interview on Good Morning America this AM, and they also showed a brand new (and totally hearbreaking) clip from Mockingjay Part 1. 

Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth will be on GMA tomorrow, and Natalie Dormer will be a guest on Friday. Good Morning America airs on ABC starting at 7:00am ET. The big guests are USUALLY in the 8:00 hour, but we don't have a confirmed exact time.  

Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks & Donald Sutherland Will Talk Mockingjay Part 1 on eTalk

Canadian entertainment show ETALK has a 30-minute Mockingjay Part 1 special, ETALK PRESENTS: THE HUNGER GAMES MOCKINGJAY PART 1, premiering Friday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. ET on CTV. The show will feature interviews with Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, and Donald Sutherland.

Starting this Wednesday, November 4th they're previewing bits of the interviews on their nightly show - 7pm ET on CTV. ETalk did a similar thing last year with Catching Fire. You can check out the video from last year HERE.  The interviews will be available the day after the broadcast on eTalk's website. And, obviously we'll get them posted here too! 

Also on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 8 p.m. ET/PT  The Hunger Games film will have its Canadian broadcast premiere on CTV, CTV.ca, and CTV GO

Josh Hutcherson and Donald Sutherland were on hand to accept their awards and Willow Shields also attended. Sadly, Jennifer Lawrence wasn't there to take home her surfboard this year.

Mr. Sutherland gave an epic President Snow-worthy acceptance speech, complete with nightlock berries and a white rose that he tossed into the audience:

Josh talks the "melancholy" end to The Hunger Games films, the wrap party, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and honors his grandfather, Dennis Hutcherson, who passed away later that evening. Our condolences to the Hutcherson family.

The Capitol PN Releases a New Still of Peeta + Introduces Capitol Concerns

The Capitol PN added an eerie image of Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark to their formerly solo portrait of Donald Sutherland as President Snow. It was chilling to check the site this morning and see Peeta added! We're loving the way they're marketing this film. It's truly making us feel like a citizen of Panem, getting propaganda straight from The Capitol. And if you've been with us from the beginning and have explored our site, you know that's RIGHT up our alley.

The Capitol PN also introduced a new feature today: Capitol Concerns, "an open forum to submit questions, suggestions, and concerns for immediate review and timely resolution" from The Capitol and President Snow himself. We have a feeling that your concerns will be given the UTMOST attention. Perhaps after submitting your concern you'll be brought directly to The Capitol for further "discussion." Hmmm.

President Snow Addresses Panem (aka the 'Mockingjay' Teaser Trailer)

Panem Today. Panem Tomorrow. Panem Forever. Check out the loooong awaited Mockingjay Part 1 teaser trailer! A stark white set and a very serious Donald Sutherland as President Snow addresses Panem on Capitol TV. And look who's next to The Snowster! Hijacked Peeta! Well, maybe not quite hijacked yet, but Josh Hutcherson as Peeta looking more than a little lost, eluding to much of what's been going on since we left the arena in Catching Fire. Who didn't LOSE IT when Peeta looks into the camera on the last beat?

We adore that Lionsgate is going full in-universe propaganda on this teaser and we can't wait to see what they have in store for the rest of the campaign. Yay! We LOVE it!

Inside The 'Mockingjay' Party at Cannes 2014

Lionsgate pulled out all the stops for their lavish Mockingjay Part 1 party at a private villa 30 minutes outside of Cannes. Cast members Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Sam Claflin, Liam Hemsworth, Julianne Moore, Donald Sutherland, director Francis Lawrence, Producers Nina Jacobson and Jon Kilik, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairman Rob Friedman, President of Production Erik Feig, and Chief Marketing Officer Tim Palen attended the party surrounded by models dressed in Capitol finery and gorgeous decor. It was reported that Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson were dancing together and lip-synching to "I Wanna Dance With Somebody." How we'd LOVE to see that on video!
