Celebrating 3 Years of 'The Hunger Games' Films

Can you believe it's been THREE years since the premiere of The Hunger Games? I remember March 23, 2012 very specifically. We had just started this site a month before, and were very eagerly awaiting the film's arrival in theaters. I saw the movie twice on opening day and then went back to the theater to see it twice the next day too. It was a thrill to see a book that I loved so much adapted SO beautifully on screen.

What has #3Yearsof TheHungerGames meant to us? Here are a few highlights:

Jennifer Lawrence went from fairly unknown indie it-girl to the biggest movie star on the planet.

Josh Hutcherson broke our hearts as Peeta Mellark (and continues to do so).

 

We got to experience that a Hollywood franchise can stay true to the source material and fans, respect the intelligence of its audience AND actually be incredibly entertaining and successful!  

We experienced the shock of losing director Gary Ross, and the delight in realizing what a gift director Francis Lawrence would be.

We lost a member of the family.

The Hunger Games franchise broke records:

The Hunger Games was the #1 film 4 weeks in a row.

All 3 movies have held the #1 opening weekend spot for 2 or more weeks.

The Hunger Games is currently the 14th most successful franchise in history - with the LEAST number of films, mind you, and we're not finished! It is also the ONLY franchise with a true female lead, besides Twilight.

Catching Fire was the #1 movie of 2013

Mockingjay Part 1 was very nearly the #1 movie of 2014 (darn you, limited release American Sniper!)

Catching Fire is in the top 10 domestic box office grosses of all time.

And the list goes on.....

We fell in love with the commitment and talent of our director, producers, writers, and amazing crew.

The 'Mockingjay Part 1' Cast On Their Favorite Set Memories

 

In celebration of the UK Mockingjay Part 1 DVD and Blu-Ray release, Sugarscape just posted an exclusive clip featuring the cast discussing their favorite moments from filming. Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Sam Claflin, Julianne Moore, Natalie Dormer, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland and Francis Lawrence filmed the interviews during the London press junket for MJ1.

Liam Hemsworth Surprise SNL Appearance

Liam Hemsworth made a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live last evening, joining his brother and this week's host Chris Hemsworth onstage as he delivered his opening monologue. Brother Luke also joined in, as well as a few "unknown" family members:

Liam Hemsworth Cast in Independence Day Sequel

Congrats to Liam Hemsworth, who has just been officially cast in the upcoming Independence Day sequel. Most of you probably don't remember the original because it's actually almost 20 YEARS OLD! Can you believe that? Now I feel ancient. The 1996 original was a massive hit (2nd highest worldwide gross at the time) and starred Bill Pullman as the US President. Liam will play his son in the sequel. The movie, which is also being called Independence Day Forever, will be released June 24, 2016. 

New 'Mockingjay Part 1' Behind The Scenes Clips - Jennifer Lawrence & Weapons of Choice

We've got a couple more behind the scenes clips from Mockingjay Part 1 ahead of Friday's DVD and Blu-Ray release of the film! Moviefone recently posted a short clip from 'The Mockingjay Lives: The Making of Mockingjay: Part 1,' the 8-part documentary that is part of the blu-ray and iTunes digital HD special features. This clip is a little ode to Jennifer Lawrence.

Movies.com posted a great, exclusive behind the scenes look at the weapons of Mockingjay Part 1. This clip is not on any special features on any version of the dvd or blu-ray that we've reviewed. So, thanks Movies.com for this cool clip! Plus, it features more of stunt coordinator Sam Hargrave, which is an added bonus as far as we are concerned. 

Another new clip just came out today via JustJared.com. This clip features Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, and more stars of the film opening up about their unbreakable bond on and off set.

'Mockingjay Part 1' and Cast Nominated for 4 Kids' Choice Awards

New 'Mockingjay Part 1' Behind The Scenes Clip on the Cast - Rebels & Warriors

If you signed up for Roadshow Entertainment's The Mockingjay Lives campaign, you got an email yesterday that included the link to this fantastic new Mockingjay Part 1 behind the scenes video from the upcoming home entertainment release special features! The link was private at first - biggest tease ever - but now it's available to watch. Featuring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks and Stanley Tucci, the clip gives a fantastic look behind the scenes of THAT scene between Katniss and Peeta. It's great to see how much they laughed between takes!

NEW 'Mockingjay Part 1' BTS - Jennifer Lawrence & Liam Hemsworth Hovercraft Hijinks

Jennifer Lawrence kept things interesting on the Mockingjay Part 1 set. She and Liam Hemsworth explain in this new behind the scenes video that debuted on MTV News today:

Jennifer Lawrence, who stars in the franchise as hero Katniss, spends much of “Mockingjay” zooming around Panem in a hovercraft, visiting Districts under assault from the villainous Capitol. In reality, Lawrence and her co-stars were in a hovercraft that was legitimately pretty high off the ground and moving over the movie’s impressive sets. While the stars were all wearing harnesses, Lawrence liked to lean out just enough to make everyone around her really nervous.

In celebration of the home release of “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1″ — you can download the movie in Digital HD Feb. 17, and the DVD and Blu-ray will be available March 6 — MTV News is sharing the exclusive behind the scenes clip of Lawrence’s on-set hovercraft shenanigans.
