Joseph Zada as Haymtich Abernathy in Sunrise on the Reaping
Lionsgate dropped a brand-new trailer for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping this week, and apparently the assignment was: How much can we put Haymitch Abernathy through in two and a half minutes?
Because the answer is a lot.

This is easily our biggest look at the 50th Hunger Games yet, and for book readers, it is absolutely PACKED with recognizable moments.

Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner
We see Haymitch in the arena, the chariot crash, Sub-A, Maysilee’s bird attack, Ampert and those squirrels, Lou Lou among the flowers, the force field, and several other scenes pulled remarkably closely from Suzanne Collins’ book.

Iona Bell is Lou Lou
What really struck me, though, is how much this trailer lets us see Haymitch experiencing all of it. Joseph Zada spends an alarming percentage of the runtime terrified, furious, injured, running for his life, or staring at yet another fresh horror the Capitol has placed in front of him.

Which, well… sounds about right.

And We Got Two New Posters

New poster for Sunrise on the Reaping “CHALLENGE AUTHORITY”New new Sunrise on the Reaping poster “CAPITALIZE POWER.”

Along with the trailer, Lionsgate released two gorgeous new posters that split the movie between two sides of Panem.

Haymitch, Maysilee and the other tributes appear beneath “CHALLENGE AUTHORITY,” while President Snow, Drusilla, Caesar, Plutarch and Effie appear beneath “CAPITALIZE POWER.”
And these things are packed with details.

The District 12 tributes are literally positioned opposite the Capitol, while Effie stands closest to their side, a nice little visual hint at where her sympathies may be heading. There’s Wyatt’s scrip coin, the PINK BIRDS, the volcano looming behind Haymitch, and Plutarch hanging back behind the Capitol crowd, looking very much like a man with plans of his own.

Lou Lou almost looks like a visual blend of Louella and Lou Lou, which means the Capitol has won because at this point even I’m struggling to tell them apart. And perhaps the wildest detail: the District 12 tributes appear to be standing in the order of their demise in the book.

Between the new posters and a trailer absolutely packed with book moments, this was easily one of our biggest Sunrise on the Reaping drops yet.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping hits theaters and IMAX November 20, 2026.
