Know Your District: District 1 - Luxury

The 1st District of our great nation, District 1’s magnificence, from it’s splendid high plane vistas, to its beautiful mountain views and stunning northern treks, makes it one of the most scenic places in all of Panem.     

D1's geography stretches from the northern border of Capitol City to the Northern Wilds.  A diverse district, Southern D1 is flush with cosmopolitan merchant communities delivering the finest goods to Capitol City; while Highland D1sports the rugged beauty of vast mountainous stretches, flush with the natural resources to produce Panem’s finest luxury items.    

 

District 1's Northeast border pushes against the Great Wilds of the North, protecting us all from barbaric foreign interlopers. It's well-placed position bordering such integral regions as District 3's technology hub, and District 7's Lumber mecca, allows D1 to acquire the finest materials of each of its neighbors for producing its treasures.  

Much of the beauty of our dear Capitol is due to the intrepid miners, manufacturers, and craftsmen of District 1. After registering for their first Hunger Games lottery at age twelve, every D1 child signs up for a trade school.  Usually training to enter their parent’s profession, the children learn their academy’s discipline.  Each trade school has a specialty and several mandatory classes, such as economics and trade, which all the youths study.  The future jewelers, milliners and haberdashers start their apprenticeship at age sixteen and have, on average, mastered their craft by the time their first child is born.

While all goods produced by the Districts are used nationally, District 1’s influence has the widest reach.  Under the guidance of elite Capitol stylists, D1’s design plans are sent to its eleven sisters. From the caviar harvested in District 4, to the luxury cars engineered in District 3 and assembled in District 6, a multitude of District exports are instigated in District 1.  

Although D11 grows incredibly delicious and nutritious produce, the genial climate of D1 allows it to host an expanse of vineyards that cultivate delicate fruit that would not survive the gentlest of D6 transport. Vintners of this wealthy District produce the nation-famous Snow grape, eponymous to our proud leader. Grown in the vineyards of the District’s southwest, this tender fruit is known for its robust, ethereal flavor and its lingering aftertaste.  Snow Wine is a staple of New Year’s parties across the nation; every family in Panem must indulge in this annual luxury.

Photo credit: globusjourneys.com.While the clothing distributed throughout the nation is skillfully handmade in D8, the denizens of D1 make every original garment and accessory that has the honor of going to the Capitol.  There, the pieces are sold in Capitol boutiques or are shipped straight to the Commissioner of Personal Propriety for distribution to the First Family’s Stylists.

Gamemakers Announce Tribute Scores

Gamemakers have just announced scores for this year's Tributes! Capitol city is alive with fervent speculation on who will win this year’s Hunger Games. Tributes are eligible for scores ranging from 1-12, 12 being the near unattainable apex. With the scores posted - let the betting commence!

Career Tributes Marvel and Glimmer from District 1, and Cato and Clove from District 2, as expected, picked up scores ranging from 8-10. Districts 1 and 2 have a long history of bringing home Games victories and are invariably odds on favorites. 

Peeta Mellark, the seemingly sentimental young baker from District 12, pulled in an unexpected 8 from the judges. Perhaps those hands can do more than decorate cakes?

One of the real surprises of the night was little Rue from District 11, so slight and young, yet earning a astonishly high score of 7! What could be her secret skill? We can’t wait to see it unfold during the games. It should make the wagering much more interesting!Tiny Rue from District 11. What is her secret skill?

Continuing to astound and enchant us all is Katniss Everdeen from District 12, the Girl on Fire! Ms. Everdeen received this year's top score of 11. Tongues are wagging all over Capitol City. What did she show the judges to obtain that nearly inconceivable score?

We're anxiously awaiting the Tribute interviews to gather more clues about this year's young hopefuls, but don't wait!

Career District Stylist Named

As the excitement of the 74th Annual Hunger Games builds to a feverish pitch, one of the most anticipated fashion announcements of the season was made today by the Panem Ministry of Fashion. For the 4rd time in 10 years, Decius Lestat has been named official stylist for the Games.

This time the Tributes from District 1 get the honor of Lestat's renowned talents. Considered one of the most sought after stylists in Capitol City, Decius has not only sent two Games winners to their chariots, but has also been on the staff of 3 others throughout his illustrious career. 

This Hunger Games Lestat will be designing for Tributes Marvel Rudd (17) and Glimmer Pascentia (18), both considered top 10 contenders by most Capitol handicappers.  District 1 is also a nearly perennial winner of fashion opinion-makers, with an almost ceaseless assortment of luxury themes to inspire its stylists.

Already the fashion world is buzzing with the news.  Former Games stylist Tigris said;

 Decius is absolutely purrrrrfect for the role.  I can't even imagine what he'll do for those District 1 kids.  That Glimmer is an absolute vision.  I think he's going to go classic.  Gold or silver.  I can't wait!

Decius is known for his use of jewels, so the fashion district is said to already be quickly making orders to precious stone distributors throughout District 1.  The gifted designer has a history of setting the post-Games fashion trend, so the industry is on edge to see what he'll dream up next. District 1's Glimmer may steal the show. 

Lestat had few words at the announcement, but spoke about how he was grateful President Snow for the opportunity to serve, and how it's his wish to please the Panem audience.

I only wish to honor those that fight for the glory of our dear Panem, and our most judicious leader, President Snow, who with love and wisdom keeps our great nation safe and prosperous. 

Within the next week Panem will learn more about who among the large, prodigious staff Decius will select as his Hunger Games team.  Whomever the daft stylist chooses, however, will likely get the opportunity of a lifetime!
